Known as the Tupelo Honey Capital of the World, Wewahitchka, called "Wewa" by the locals, is also home to an area known as the Dead Lakes which is a beautiful area with abundant wildlife. The movie Ulee's Gold starring Peter Fonda was filmed in Wewa, based on the life of beekeepers and Tupelo honey. Wewa is home to one of the largest festivals in Florida each year, the Tupelo Honey Festival. Wewa is not only a great family-friendly place to live, recreational opportunities are abundant whether kayaking on the Dead Lakes or fishing or hunting in its beautiful wooded areas.
